Much is written about the Dordogne, and most of it is true. Beautiful rolling countryside, forests, rivers, famous food and wine, splendid châteaux, tiny hamlets and of course, the site of the Hundred Years War; Richard Coeur de Lion was mortally wounded here - so they say! This region is rich in historic sites such as the famous Lascaux Caves, the stunning city of Sarlat and the fascinating bastide towns which run along the spectacular Dordogne river. There are many magnificent châteaux to be found throughout this beautiful area of France from Nontron in the north to Monbazillac in the far south. Périgueux, the capital town, has regular wonderful markets, excellent shopping and magnificent architecture.
