La Maison Haute
Having crossed the Gironde Estuary by ferry from the historic citadel town of Blaye, the excitement builds as you travel through the Medoc and past some of the most prestigious vineyards of the world. There is a feeling that one is entering a rather sacred area as familiar names such as Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Latour, Lynch-Bages and Calon Segur appear around every corner. La Maison Haute is situated in the grounds of one of these special vineyards, Chateau Bonneau-Livran, and is perfectly placed just north of St Estephe itself and only 20 kilometres from the sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast. This sizeable house has spacious living accommodation as well as four large bedrooms with access to covered verandahs on the first floor. All the rooms have a fresh, light and airy ambience and are furnished to a very high standard. Opposite the house, climbing roses adorn a barn which can be used as a shady recreational or dining area. The fenced swimming pool has a covered terrace, changing rooms and barbecue area and looks out across the two hectares of vines to the side of the property.

4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room, 1 washroom The open plan living area has a light pink terracotta tiled floor and large windows facing the private courtyard and pretty little garden. Comfortable sofas surround an enclosed wood burning stove and the large dining table can seat ten people. A breakfast bar separates the extremely well equipped, attractively tiled kitchen. The four bedrooms on the first floor all have twin beds, attractive seagrass flooring and large double glazed sliding doors onto the balcony where there are tables and chairs. A self-contained single storey cottage adjoins the main house and has recently been renovated and tastefully furnished to provide well equipped, comfortable accommodation for four people. Both properties may be booked together for parties of up to 12 persons who wish to holiday together yet have independent accommodation. notes: The salt water swimming pool (10m x 5m x 1.2m-1.8m) is fenced. The pool house has a barbecue area, changing and shower facilities as well as the laundry room. The cottage is only available in conjunction with La Maison Haute. Please note that the owners share the pool when they are staying in the chateau.

The local towns and the Dordogne region.
The house is located near St Seurin de Cadourne, where you can find the basics: bread shop; bar; restaurant and tennis facilities. Bathed in the light from the estuary, gently rocked by the rhythm of the tides, the Pauillac (10 km SW) wine region in the Medoc is one of the most prestigious in the world. The Maison du Tourisme et du Vin can reserve for you on any day of the year, a visit to the wine cellars of a vineyard. Montalivet (25 km NW) is seated on the West coast of France between the sand beaches of the Atlantic shoreline and the Gironde Estuary in the Medoc region. It has an open air maket occuring each day during the summer months. This market with its colourful mix of over 200 stalls and stands is world famous for its produce and atmosphere. Surrounding the village you will find activities for all age groups and tastes. If its sport which leads you; the sea and the freshwater lakes on your doorstep will be your play ground for fishing, canoeing, kite surfing, sailing and surfing. This region is rich in historic sites such as the famous Lascaux Caves, the stunning city of Sarlat and the fascinating bastide towns which run along the spectacular Dordogne river. There are many magnificent châteaux to be found throughout this beautiful area of France from Nontron in the north to Monbazillac in the far south. Périgueux, the capital town, has regular wonderful markets, excellent shopping and magnificent architecture. We feel sure you will enjoy the great charms of this area whilst staying in the comfort of our house, La Maison Haute.
