Something about the village
Albion House is situated on the edge of a traditional Cretan Village. So beautiful is this village that it has been declared an European Heritage Village and EU funding has been made available to preserve and protect its unique character. The streets are very narrow and guests will only be disturbed by the occasional pick up truck which stops in the main street selling everything from local fruit and veg. to the latest fashions from Thessalonika. We fell in love with the peace and tranquillity, the friendliness of the neighbours and the stunning views over the bay to the islands of Spinalonga.

If you love a rural setting, if you want to 'get away from it all', if you love the mountains and the sea, then you will love Pano Elounda and Albion House. When we renovated the house in 2003, we wanted to keep a balance between old and new. The stone walls were cleaned and pointed, the odd trap door to the kitchen staircase, the Cretan door to the patio, the rather inconvenient Cretan sink - these were the things we decided to keep. The fully fitted bathroom was once the goat shed - it is built into the rock and by candle light the walls sparkle and shimmer with reflected light from quartz crystals. But we were aware that this needed to be a comfortable house - we have furnished Albion House with high quality purpose built couches and comfortable armchairs from England. The walls are hung with original artwork and the kitchen is well equipped for those who want to cook for themselves.

Cordon bleu food to your table
If you want the joy of living in a Cretan village, but don't want to think about cooking and shopping for food, why not let us bring your meals to the door. Breakfast can be ordered daily, meals can be waiting ready for you to pop in the oven when you get in, and packed lunches for day trips into the mountains are available on order the previous day. These meals include home baked bread and cakes, locally grown produce and everything prepared by an English trained Cordon bleu cook.

Property extras:
Albion House is a traditional village house set out in an open plan. Handmade Turkish couches are provided instead of the more usual beds and the main sleeping area is on a raised platform at the end of the sitting room. The house sleeps two on the sleeping platform, two in the sitting room area and one with a Turkish couch in the kitchen. It is also possible for two guests to sleep on a double air bed on the roof terrace.
