The apartment
Il Gelsomino is part of an old stone village house built approx. 250 years ago in the heart of the borgo.A romantic setting for a couple who love culture and beauty.The entrance is via a large gate into a pretty courtyard and up steep stairs to the private jasmin covered terrace.Through french doors into the kitchen/diner,up a step into the bathroom and cosy sitting room.This room has plenty of books and can be a single bedroom if required.Up steep open tread stairs to the pretty bedroom with a king size cast iron double bed(160 cms or 5ft 3 ins),matching tables with glass Murano reading lamps.All the rooms have chestnut beams,terracotta floors and radiators. Re decorated throughout for the season 2006

Santa Maria Del Giudice
This lively working village,surrounded by wooded hills,is in an ideal location for exploring Northern Tuscany.Only 10 mins drive from the beautiful medieval city of Lucca and 15 mins from the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.There is a beautiful 13th century church with bells, which can be seen from the apartment.Within 5-10 mins walking there are 3 restaurent/pizzerias which serve local Tuscan cooking at reasonable rates.A choice of grocers,a post office,a butcher and 3 hairdressers all around the corner,plus 2 excellent supermarkets close by, make this location a perfect spot.There are local hourly buses to Lucca and Pisa from the village,however we do recommend a car for exploring further

What to do and where to go
The best way to visit Lucca is by foot! Wandering around the side streets to find yet another beautiful piazza.Or it is possible to walk the 4.5 klms on top of the wall ,hire a bike to go shopping like the locals or sit in a square and watch the world enjoy the city.There are many places to visit for day trips-Florence, Sienna,Cinque Terre and Volterra by car,train or bus. In the Lucca region in the months of July and August there are music festivals to suit all tastes.Open air pop,jazz and opera.Every week-end in August there is a Sagra della Zuppa(bean and vegetable soup, plus grilled meats) with music and dancing until midnight. This takes place in the field behind Il Gelsomino.
