The perfect base to explore the Greater Dublin Region of Kildare, Wicklow (The Garden of Ireland) and historic Meath seat of the last High Kings of Ireland and location of the World Heritage Centre, Newgrange only an hour's car ride away. Golf, fishing, water sports, tennis, cycling are all at hand. Dublin City is an easy drive at 40kms. The local village Ballytore an original Quaker settlement founded by the Shackeltons and Leadbetter families is a very interesting local attraction with its most famous son been the great Antarctic Explorer Ernest H. Shackleton 1874-1922. Athy the nearest big town is a terminal point for a branch of the Grand Canal which along with the River Barrow offers ideal opportunities for fishing canoeing and pleasure boat cruising and of course Kildare centre of the horse breeding and training industry in Ireland and there are excellent opportunities for hunting, riding and race going at the Curragh Naas and Punchestown racecourses.
