LOCAL INFORMATION, DISTANCES FROM PLACES
There is a Bar and Restaurant on the same site as the Villa-Tara which is about 3 minutes walk away (closed in winter). For travel without a car a minibus passes each way to Karaburun and Mordogan for exploring and sightseeing every half hour in the summer and hourly in the winter. There is a little shop on the main road for most necessities and they will deliver bread, water, milk etc. There is also a good supermarket (Mortan) just the other side of Mordogan where all normal supplies are available. There is a weekly open market in Mordogan on Tuesdays which is well worth a visit and is also in Karaburun each Wednesday. Mordogan centre is about 10 minutes away by car or minibus. There are kebab houses, pide (Turkish pizza), fish restaurants, a German restaurant, a beer garden and two night clubs. Yellow taxis are always available and are quite cheap even after midnight when the fare is doubled until 6 am. There are two butchers for fresh and good quality meat, fresh vegetable stalls, fresh fish, a bakery, newsagents, bank and cash machine (with English guidance) and Post Office. For fishing enthusiasts there is a tackle shop supplying razor fish bait in season (ask for Sulunes) which can be kept frozen for several days' use. There is a well stocked chemist with a pharmacist who speaks fluent English and will prescribe medicine including antibiotics if necessary. There is also a Healthcare Clinic. Fishing from the shore with rods or hand lines can produce decent sized Sea Bass, Mackerel, Red and Grey Mullet, Octopus, Squid and Sea Bream all of which are good for the barbecue and go very well with local wine from the Mortan supermarket. There are fishing boats for hire day or night and larger fish can be caught (and sold to the restaurants). Mordogan is famous for its purple flowers and the colour of the rising sun which gave the town its name. Travelling up towards Karaburun you will pass delightful fishing villages and increasingly rugged mountain scenery with lush flora with the smell of flowers and herbs in the clear air. In Karaburun there are other beautiful beaches, cafes and restaurants. For sport fishing Barracuda can be caught in the open sea and local fishermen can take you for a very exciting night out. You can cook these fish and tell fishing tails whilst eating it. Continuing to the end of the peninsular we come to Yeniliman, a pretty fishing village sitting at one end of an attractive bay which is good for swimming and shore fishing. With your own car or on an organised trip you can, via the centre of Yeniliman, head off up to the mountain interior and experience dramatic views over the peninsular, down rugged slopes to remote valleys and villages hidden from normal tourism. On the far side there are several holiday villages finally leading to the attractive holiday and yachting centre, Cesme, which is well worth a visit. Return is via the motorway to Izmir.
