The history
Galati was a part of the large estate of the noble family Arone di Bertolino.
The house with his position on the hill dominating the vally was bild in the 17th century.
The block of building was square, and the house was rising to face north. The view, As far as the eye could see, was superb. Two flight of stairs allowed acsess at the main house. Unfortunately the building was distroied by the earthquake of the 1968. The property covers some 29 acres and is surrounded by olive groves, almond and some pistachio trees. From May to the beginning of September there are fields of tomatoes, if requested we will teach you how to pick the tomatoes, to cook and to preserve a delicious tomato sauce.
Tramontana
Tramontana sleeps six. It has its own separate entrance and a private outdoor terrace with barbecue. Comprising two bedrooms, one with qeen bed and the other with two beds, a bathroom, a livingroom with sofa bed and kitchen corner. The apartment have ceiling fan in each room and is fully equipped.Galati is extremely quiet and peaceful with stunning views of rolling countryside. Ideally situated for visiting the Greek temples of Agrigento, Selinunte and Segesta.The owners, Enrico and Anna live next door and are more than happy to help and advise, when needed. The view is absolutely stunning. You are in the middle of a quiet and gorgeous landscape. There is an abundance of good, reasonably priced eating establishments in the area. These include pizzerias and restaurants. Anything from the plain and reasonably priced, to the more sophisticated palate are catered for.
Sciacca
Sciacca, situated on the famous archeological road between Selinunte and Agrigento in Sicily is one of the oldest towns in the island. Founded in the 7th century BC by the Selinuntini which made it into their health resort, in the middle ages it was transformed into a flourishing industrial and commercial centre. Artistic works of notable interest especially of the medieval and baroque peiods are conserved here. Sciacca's fame in modern times comes from her renowned hydromineral resources and to the famous Monte San Calogero natural vapour and sweat grottoes. In addition to the enchanting landscapes, the rugged beauty of an indented coastline, to the sandy beach and to the luminosity of sea Sciacca has also a gentle healthy cliamte which makes it an ideal place for health cures, for holidays and for tourism.
There are excellent modern thermal facilities.
THERMAE: Looking to the the sea and dominated by Mount San Calogero on its east side, Sciacca is the oldest baths resort of Sicily and one of the biggest town in the south-western coast. Very famous are the Natural Steam Vents of San Calogero, 7 Km away from the town. The area was inhabited up to the Copper Age, when an earthquake (2000 BC) caused the emission of vapor. Nobody could live there anymore and the spot had to be abandoned. Several items have been found, evidences of people living there. The caves have been called after a monk who, arriving in the spot in the 6th century BC, realized that the vapors could treat several diseases, and provided the area with stone benches for sick people

The area is extremely quiet and peaceful with stunning views of rolling countryside. You are in the middle of a quiet and gorgeous landscape remote enough that you rarely hear any noise but the sounds of birds singing. There are excellent walking opportunities in the hilly countryside (there are almost no fences here, and the farmers encourage you to go where you like). The position of this country house provides an ideal base for long stay from which to explore the many wonders of Sicily.
