Beautiful little 1-bed designer duplex in the Marais, Paris
This is a beautiful, brand-newly renovated vacation apartment in the heart of the historic Marais area of Paris - 4th arrondissement - the prettiest area of central Paris and only five minutes form the river, 10 to Notre Dame and the Louvre. Located in an 18th-century building with elegant curving stone staircase, it is a charming mix of old-world charm and modern design. The apartment is small but exquisite, with exposed beams and solid-wood floor. The kitchen/living room has 13ft ceilings and two tall windows looking onto a quiet courtyard. The kitchen is unusually well-fitted for a Paris apartment, with solid-granite counter, oven, microwave, four-burner vitro-ceramic hob, washer dryer and dishwasher. The LCD TV has satellite connection so you get a selection of 100 English-language channels (in most apartments you only get French cable which offers only CNN and BBC News 24), dvd player. There is a small library of guidebooks, maps, novels etc as well as films on dvd. The bedroom is up a hidden away little staircase and features a large double bed (queen size) with, off it, a luxury shower room with, that rarity in Paris, a good power shower. Back in the living room is a comfortable sofa that is also a double sleeper sofa (though, given that the bathroom is off the main bedroom, the apartment is better for a couple than for four people), an antique-elm Chinese coffee table and a funky dining table by the architect Jean Nouvel, with chairs by Philippe Starck. There is a very nice Paris-based American who will meet you at the apartment to give you the keys and show you where everything is, and answer any questions about Paris.
