Auvergnats
Auvergnats is a wonderful 17th century stone farmhouse located in the Lot et Garonne region of south west France, only 15 kilometres from the famous bastide town of Eymet. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 shower room ground floor: A lovely dining area adjoins the very well equipped kitchen which has access to the terrace and garden. The separate salon is furnished with comfortable seating around an enormous fireplace and the original beamed ceiling, old stone walls and flagstone floor scattered with rugs complete the picture. To the left of the entrance hall there is a very attractive double bedroom in which little alcoves reveal fascinating objets d'art. Next to the kitchen there is a shower room with a large, walk-in shower, WC and washbasin. first floor: A wooden staircase leads from the entrance hall to the first floor bedrooms, both of which have beamed ceilings and wonderful wattle and daub walls. The elegant master bedroom suite is open plan and on two levels. A king-size, canopied double bed occupies the higher level with steps down to a sitting area and delightful open bathroom with bath, basin and separate WC. Across the landing is another beautifully furnished bedroom with twin beds, lovely en suite bathroom and separate WC. The surrounding area
EYMET (15 km) is a bustling market town with an assortment of bars, restaurants and shops. BERGERAC (37 km) is the second-largest town in the Dordogne region of France and the capital of south-west Périgord, an area famous for its vineyards. It is a charming town that developed rapidly in the12th century as a key trading port and river crossing, but today is perhaps better known for its museums, street markets and excellent dinning. It is a picturesque town bustling with life and vitality, especially in the pedestrianised area of the old quarter. At Bergerac there are excellent golf courses nearby at Chateau des Vigiers and Castelnaud. The countryside surrounding the town is packed with mature vineyards. St Foy la Grande (32 km) is a mediaeval town with all amenities. It is particularly attractive being situated on the Dordogne river it is a 13C Bastide town centred around an old market square. The Saturday market here is well worth a visit.
