General
The villa has two bedrooms with air-conditioning, one double and one twin, each with access to the balcony and with views towards the river and mountains beyond. On the first floor is a spacious and well-appointed shower room with WC and washbasin. The ground floor is an air-conditioned, open-planned living and dining area with a well-equipped kitchen. There is also a ground floor cloakroom and WC. Outside you will find a small terrace for al fresco dining, plenty of space for sunbathing around the pool and an area of garden. The nearest local shop which sells just about everything is just two minutes away. It opens very early in the morning, shuts very late at night and sells all the essentials. A further few minutes walk will find you in the centre of Dalyan. The photographs are as follows: 1 - The House itself. 2 - The pool, seen from the house. 3 Iztuzu beach (a delightful boat trip or a spectacular bus ride over the mountain. 4 Dalyan - from the other side of the river. 5 - The fish gate (down river).
The Town
It will take you 10 minutes or so to walk into the centre of Dalyan from Kelebek Villas - just turn left and follow the road until you come to the river. There are literally hundreds of places to eat in the town serving a variety of different kinds of food. Turkish cuisine is very healthy and quite delicious and it's easy to be spoilt for choice. There is a good selection of tourist shops selling good quality jewellry and leather, old copper pots, beautiful pottery and tiles, carpets and cushions, spices, Turkish delight and many more items to tempt you. The shops are open late at night and the best time for shopping is during the evening when the weather is cooler. Be warned - shopping is not a hurried persuit in Turkey! You will be expected to sit and chat and you will often be offered a glass of Turkish tea. It is considered bad manners to refuse. There is a permanent greengrocer in the market square and it's fun to shop for your weekly fruit and veg. in the Saturday market which also sells cheese, eggs, local honey and olive oil, nuts and spices as well as a good selection of gifts, shoes and clothing. You can buy a 'genuine fake' in any of the local markets!
Places to Visit and Things to Do
Kaunos
If you walk to the end of the river path with the river on your right, you will come eventually to the rowing boats. Take a boat across the river, pause for a cold drink in one of the small restaurants on the other side, then follow the path up past the rock tombs and onwards, climbing the hill until you reach the ancient city of Kaunos. It is best visited early or late in the day in mid season, or left until the Autumn, as it is around an hours walk. There is a small cafe serving cold drinks at the site. When you've explored the amazing ancient city, return to the riverside and enjoy a gozleme (pancake) and a refreshing glass of ayran ( a yoghurt drink) before you get the boat back to Dalyan.
Walking the beach
Another favourite with those who like walking is to take a bus to Iztuzu and then walk the length of the beach, returning to Dalyan by boat. (Or do this in reverse if you prefer). The walk is approx. 6km long on sand and takes about an hour if you don't linger, but you will have most of the beach to yourself and you may see the tracks made by the loggerhead turtles in the sand.
Cycling
Bike hire costs approx. £6.00 per day. Cycling is a great way to get around Dalyan, as it's mainly flat, though the roads are sometimes extremely bumpy. You could even explore some of the surrounding villlages if you are really keen. A word of warning though, if you think of cycling to the beach - there's a mountain in the way!
Koycegiz Lake, the Garden of Eden and the Thermal Baths
A favourite trip for those who like boats. Set off from the harbour at around 11.00 a.m. and go up-river to Koycegiz Lake. Stop for a swim in the lake where the water is crystal clear and feels like silk. Get the boatman to take you to The Garden of Eden for lunch. It has tree-houses, hammocks and swings and does a very good lunch at reasonable prices (it's usual to pay for the captain's lunch). After lunch make your way back to Sultaniye Thermal Baths where you can soak in the hot spring water, have a mud bath (optional!), take some tea, and swim in the lake to cool off.
Return to Dalyan around 5.00 in the afternoon. This trip costs around £40.00 for the hire of the boat plus whatever you spend on lunch. It's great value for money if there are 6 or 8 of you sharing the boat and is a really good day out.
