The local towns and the region.
The property is situated 15 kilometres South from the thriving market town of Riberac, which stands beside the river Dronne. Riberac, to the west of the Perigord and bordering the Charente, is famous for its large Friday market with wonderful displays of fresh fruit, fish, cheese and garden produce and where almost anything can be purchased. This is a rural area of lush countryside, of woods and meadows interspersed with fields of sunflowers, wheat and maize. Sleepy hilltop villages abound and quiet country lanes make driving or cycling a pleasure.
Only 1 km away from the house you will find St Martial, placed in a beautiful rural setting.
Verteillac is just 4 km S from the house, and here you will find everything you need in the way of shops.
The Dordogne is a region in south-western France which is steeped in history, having been continuously inhabited by man for some 40,000 years. Because of its favourable location, the Perigord is blessed with a particularly mild climate, and the numerous caves with pre-historic rock paintings bear witness to cultures which have long since disappeared whilst the 'bastides' (fortified towns) are a legacy of the Hundred Years War which ended after the battle of Castillon in 1453.
The house is on the borders of the Dordogne and Charente, ideal for anyone wishing to explore this wonderful area.
