The most popular holiday destination within Ireland is undoubtedly County Kerry with its world renowned Ring of Kerry-the name given to the wonderful coastal drive round the scenically splendid McGillycuddy's Reeks mountain range.
The area has beaches and a coastline that can compete on a world scale and when the Lakes of Killarney and The Ring of Kerry are added to the truly fantastic beaches and scenery of the Dingle Peninsula it is no surprise that Kerry has become a long established mecca for the Irish themselves.
Yet it does have many havens of peace and tranquillity, and one such area is the area surrounding Littor Cottage.Littor Cottage is situated on the mouth of the river Shannon, 10 miles from the Tarbert/Kilimer Ferry, 6 miles from Ballybunion, and 25 miles from Tralee. The cottage is less than 5 minutes walk from a long peaceful beach "Littor beach" and makes an ideal touring base, being an easy day-trip from the Dingle peninsula, the ring of Kerry and the Burren National Park in Co. Clare.
Providing the best in modern self-catering accommodation it is the ideal holiday location for families, or indeed anyone that wants to get away from it all, but yet be within easy reach of a wide variety of activities and famous tourist attractions. The most striking thing about the cottage is its spaciousness and bright airy feeling. Sliding patio doors lead to spacious enclosed front and back private gardens, with garden furniture overlooking Bunaclugga bay.
For cycling, walking or jogging enthuasisists no area could compare. While for the avid bird watcher a beach just 15 minutes walk from the cottage called “The White Strand”, offers everything wild and untouched from nature. Even during the main summer months this beach can offer you peace and tranquillity without another human soul in sight.
FACILITIES IN THE AREA
A new local pub called "The Store" was opened in March 2006.This pub is situated 1/2 mile from Littor Cottage. It has a strong connection with Irish Ceile music and great "craic" can be had by all on a traditional night out.Two other pubs are situated 2 miles from the cottage in the near-by village of Asdee, (including the famous Jesse James's Tavern where Jesse James's grandfather originated from).
Two 18-hole championship golf courses, cinema, children bumper cars and amusements, angling and windsurfing are but a few of the amenities available in Ballybunion.Excellent restaurants, lively pubs and discos are also available in near-by Listowel and Ballybunion. The area is also rich in culture and festivals with its world famous Listowel Writers Week festival, The Brendan Kennelly Poetry festival, The Ballybunion Bachelor festival, Rose of Tralee, and Listowel Races a mention of but a few.
