The location
Le Pigeonnier is in the hamlet of Les Tendoux with 7 other houses all from the 15th and 16th centuries. Les Tendoux is surrounded by farmland and has a vineyard-first planted in the 11th century-right outside the front door. Both the farmland and vineyard are regularly worked, but the level of agricultural noise is very low. There is wonderful woodland and open countryside with wildflowers, butterflies, deer. birds and other wildlife seldom now seen elsewhere. Walking is a joy, with a variety of options ranging from the gently digestive to the more demanding. There are also a couple of bicycles for the braver at heart.
The Accommodation
The Pigeonnier is named after the pigeon tower at one end of the property that now contains one of the double bedrooms with bathroom en suite, on the ground floor, and a sitting room in the tower. At the other end of the house is the main double bedroom with bathroom en suite. The twin bedroom is in the attic and is reached by a fairly steep staircase from the sitting room.
In the middle of the house are the reception rooms- main drawing room, with downstairs shower and wc off, serving the attic bedroom, dining room and kitchen. These are all substantial rooms and furnished with antique furniture, original paintings and rugs. As a result, the Pigeonnier is not suitable for children.
The house is fully equipped with linen, towels, kitchen equipment, sound systems in the bedrooms as well as the sitting room and a remarkable selection of reading and listening material.
Getting the most out of the house
There is terracing all round the house that ensures you are able to enjoy the sunshine and the views throughout the day and evening. There is a barbecue outside the kitchen and you can dine on the terrace by the tower room enjoying the sunset. Or you can do the same on the other side of the house, looking out over the vineyard, taking in the glorious surrounding countryside .
The swimmimg pool has a pool house equipped with dining table as well as an ice maker, so spending the day by the pool is not at all demanding, especially on the teak loungers that ensure your comfort.
Then for a little relaxing diversion, it's only a brief drive or a charming walk through the fields to Issigeac for a welcome "pression" or pastis in one of the several bars.
