Villa Details
This villa is brand new and surrounded by stunning scenery. It overlooks the valley and meadows to the front, and snow topped mountains to the side, plus has the added bonus of backing onto woodlands; perfect for rambles and picnics.
On the upper level there is a family bathroom and three bedrooms all with balconies. There is one double bedroom with en-suite and two twin-bedded rooms (plus room for two more people to sleep on large sofa beds in the lounge). Air conditioning is included in all the bedrooms. On the ground floor there is a modern, fitted kitchen, utility room, w.c. and a large lounge and dining area opening onto the garden patio next to the private swimming pool. The patio area has sun loungers, table and chairs (seats 8) and a large sun umbrella for your use. The garden has several mature trees that also shade the garden, with a gardener tending the garden weekly. The pool is cleaned and checked every other day.
Saklikent Gorge
Saklikent is between Fethiye and Kas, and the now famous gorge (10 min drive) was not discovered until 20 years ago. It is the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey and the 2nd longest in Europe. Once inside, mountain water gushes from the rocks before forming a powerful, fast-flowing stream, channelled by the sheer, rock sides which block out the sunlight and keep the water deliciously cold no matter how sweltering the temperature outside. A total of 16 caves have been discovered dating back to prehistoric times. Four kilometres of the gorge are walkable after April, although water levels can still be quite high and forceful, so expect an Indiana Jones type experience at this time or have a more sedate paddle in later months. More experienced treckers and climbers have recently covered the whole length of the gorge
making camp in the mountains on either side of the gorge, where there are also pleasant walking trails.
Locals have set up a series of wooden platforms suspended just a foot or two above the Xanthos River. Decked out with Turkish rugs and comfy cushions and shaded by fig trees, they serve freshly-caught trout and beer cooled by the ice-cold waters. All in all, quite a romantic place, in a spectacular natural park full of pine, oak and cedar trees and semi-normadic villages.
Remember, your clothes will get wet, and take suitable shoes for walking in the water. 'Jellies' can be hired on site for around 80 pence.
